New Kids On The Block, Paula Abdul, and Boyz II Men are bringing their signature sounds to the Verizon Center!
Boyz II Men was formed in 1988 in Philadelphia (under the moniker Unique Attraction) by Nathan Morris and Marc Nelson who were enrolled at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. They recruited 2 of the school’s choir members (Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman) and bass vocalist Michael McCary to complete the line-up and the quintet made their debut at the school’s Valentine’s Day show. They kept honing their craft and had a breakthrough in 1989 when they snuck backstage at a Bell Biv DeVoe concert and impressed group member Michael Bivins (former member of R&B boy band New Edition) with an acappella version of New Edition's Can You Stand the Rain. He offered to manage and help produce the group’s music but Marc decided to leave the group and the remaining quartet went on to have a stellar career with 11 studio albums, 7 compilation albums, 18 music videos and multiple hit singles. Their albums have sold 25 million copies in the US alone and in 1992 they won a Grammy Award in the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals category.
Don’t miss your chance to see the artists whose aching and tremulous harmonies lifted some of the biggest pop hits of the 1990s!
